Stock Photo Sites Worth the Hype

In the world of digital marketing, there’s no shortage of new tools promising to make your life easier. Some live up to it. Others are a one-and-done situation you forget about within a week. I could write endless lists breaking down every tool I’ve tried, but let’s start with one that matters more than people think: stock photography.

Finding graphics and videos that make your content stand out is harder than it sounds, especially when you’re a small business competing for attention. Every other business owner is on Canva too, and nothing undercuts your brand faster than a customer scrolling past your ad and recognizing a photo they’ve seen a dozen times before. If your content looks like everyone else’s, it’s forgettable. And forgettable doesn’t convert.

Pexels is a free stock photo site that actually delivers. Updated daily, it consistently has gorgeous, unique images that don’t feel stale, a rarity in the stock photo world. As a photographer myself, I find most stock photography boring and overly corporate. Pexels is the exception, and it’s become my go-to for email newsletters, social posts, and website design.

For small business owners, this is a big win: professional-quality visuals without the professional photography budget. Pexels also offers free video downloads, which is great for social media content and website backgrounds. And since the photos come from photographers all over the world, you get a range of styles and perspectives you won’t find on more generic stock sites, helping your brand feel less like a template and more like you.
